Do you have Will power?

We all either want to make more money, get a better job, loose some weight, go to the gym, eat more healthy food, quit smoking, start a business, read more books in a month, save more money, or go to school  just to mention a few but our ability to accomplish any goal we desire is dependent on the strength of our will power.

Will power is the ability to delay gratification, resist short term temptations in order to meet long term goals. It is a muscle and just like any muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it gets.

Will power is basically self control.

If you want to loose some weight for example, more importantly than your knowledge of what to do is the willingness to do it. Almost everyone of us know what to do to become more successful in most areas of our lives but many of us do not have the will power to do so. We are either too lazy or we believe we cannot accomplish it. For some, it might not even be a priority.

If i ask you today, right now, if you knew what to do to loose some weight, i bet you would give me at least 3 ways, however some of us still battle with weight issues despite knowing what to do.  Lack of Will power is an issue most of us are battling with and very little can be accomplished in life without it

How do you want to save money when you keep spending all your income your liabilities?

How do you want to read more books when you spend more time chatting with friends or watching the TV?

How do you intend to loose weight if you don't stop eating the very food that makes you gain weight?

How do you want to ever be successful when you are working against the very thing that should make you successful?

Will Power can be built and with constant exercise, you get better overtime.
  • So start small and pick a goal. If your goal is to loose weight, start by doing very little of the things that needs to be done and gradually increase the momentum. Bottom line is you must be willing to do it and you must do it.
  • If you goal is to be reading 5 books per month, start by reading a chapter a day and build your way up from there. you have to use your will power otherwise you will loose it. however don't over do it by stressing yourself out. for example, don't go running for 3 hours if you are just starting out with exercise.
  • Develop good habits and practice.  Start a goal and dedicate 21days to consistently doing the same goal. after that, it becomes a lot easier for that goal to become a routine.
  • Finally, think of the end goal in mind.

PS: If you do not exert self control, you will automatically become a slave to it.

Happy thursday
