Hello Fam ;
It's been officially 3 weeks since I last wrote a post on this blog. I missed y'all so much but I had some deadlines to meet. I know some of you thought I had withered by the way side or lost my passion but hey it was none of that.
I had gotten busy with a project that had a deadline and i really couldn't add any other thing to my already tight schedule so something had to give way. As sad as it was to give up my blog for 3 weeks, it was a great opportunity to refresh my mind and return stronger and better.
I had initially tried to combine the new project in addition to my 3 hours of daily driving back and forth, taking care of my family, work and a few other extras but i knew i had very limited time to think which would result to a poor post. Rather than give my half best to the task of blogging, i decided to switch task and focus all my energy one project at a time. This experience brings me to the crux of my post today.
Multitasking!!!
A lot of people think that multitasking is a great skill to have and we have often defined it as the ability of doing more than one thing at a particular time. According to the Webster dictionary, multitasking is defined as the concurrent performance of several jobs by a computer.
My question to you is this, are you really doing more than one thing at a particular time or are you switching between task over a period of time?
Are you also getting the job done in the best possible way by doing more than one thing at a time?
Would it have taken you a shorter period of time if you prioritized your to do list and treated the items one at a time?
Research shows that the brain doesn't really do task simultaneously as we all think. Most of the time, all we do is switch between task quickly. Every time you move from playing music, writing a text or talking to someone, the brain stops and starts the process. This process actually cost more time. It is more expensive to do more than one time at a particular time. Imagine me thinking about this post, typing it on a computer and talking over the phone whilst feeding a baby all at the same time?
Multitasking creates room for mistakes and un-necessary error.
So next time you think you are multitasking, stop and be aware that you are only switch tasking and figure out how to do one thing at a time if you want to be more efficient and effective. you could actually save more time and become a better individual if you learn how to commit to one thing at a time.
hope my 2 cents makes a difference in your life. Thank you for taking out time to visit my blog.
I am so glad to be back.
Happy August to y'all. From your one and only askadey_
